Today I was really nervous to start the Service Reading Project.  I was difficult at first to think that I was going to read to a 6th grader and had to find a book that they wouldn't get bored of. Finding the book was quite difficult especially knowing that the 6th graders get easily bored and like to stay entertained. Over all when I arrived to the library I didn't know what to expect, but had a good time.  Im just glad that it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.  When the kids arrived in the Pecos Library we all stood up and waited to get a partner. I was partnered with four kids that day and at times had to share a buddy.  My first partner was Jose, my second partner was Briana, my third partner was Nathan, and my Fourth partner was Anna.  On the first session we read the book The Dragon Prince by Laurence Yep.  It was interesting to see the kids reaction to different parts of the story.  I was glad that I had the oppertunity to read and talk about the book to these kids.  They were funny and great to be aroumd.  This was a fun first experience and Im glad I have the partners that I have.

  Today I was a bit nervous trying to think so what I was going to teach again. I came to class a little late so my first reading buddy was with another buddy. This was sad because I wanted to be with my buddy I first met in the beginning. Well I ended up partnering up with my friend and her buddy.  I was sad in the beginning because I lost one buddy all because I was late but oh well that what I get. So my second buddy Brianna came in and we read Stefanie’s book which was The Stinky Cheese man and other fairly stupid tales. After we read the book we talks about what it was about and laughed.  The Third partner came in and we decided that we would read my book after Stephanie’s book. My book was called The Lotus Seed which was a book the kids were not interested about.  Then my last partner Anna came in and we read the Lotus seed in an accent to make things spicy.  It was a good time on that Thursday. She then told me that I one of her cousins knew me and I was close to her cousin.  It was cool to find out I was reading to my friends little cousin.  Well I could’ve done things much more better but I know next time that I shouldn’t worry so much about little things.

   Today was a sad day.  Well not really sad but it was because I came late and missed my first two buddies.  What really happened was I got an e-mail saying that we had a celebration today and so last night I stayed up till four in the morning making little turtles for my student.  I then thought that since the celebration wasn’t until 10:50 am then I could sleep in.  When I came to the library a little late I saw all of my classmates there and on time. I was upset that things were not as clear and I missed my two reading buddies.   Well I hopped in with my friend and we ended up reading a story about an old grandma and a pumpkin. It was not the best day because my friend and I both didn’t make lesson plans so it was not the best day in the world.  Anna and her friend came and it made my day better because I got to see my favorite buddies.  We talked and reflected a little bit over the story but then laughed and enjoyed ourselves.  I got to give my students their turtle and a quote that said, “Be patient and steady walking with care. Just like the turtle in the Tortoise and the Hare.”  My quote I made for them meant to keep going even if others are ahead of you in college.  Never give up and in the end you will always win.  I also gave the Lucas candy and they loved it.  I was glad to give them something to remember me and college by.  I was a good day other than me being late and having misunderstanding. I had a fun time today and I just hope that I made an impact one way or another.

  Today was the last day we were to meet with our buddies. I was sort of sad because it was cool getting to know the kids.  My first buddy wasn’t there again because he went to California.  Stefanie and I, second buddy wasn’t there as well because she went on a vacation to Las Vegas.  We both were sad because we liked Brianna.  The cool thing about it was that she made something for us and it was a card that she colored out.  It was so cute I was so glad I got to receive something from my buddy.  Our third buddy came as well and he was still quiet as ever but listened to the book Stefanie was reading.  She was reading The Blues of Flats Brown.  He liked the book and after that we sat and talked with him asking him all types of questions.  He was so mellow all the times we had our reading sessions.  I was at least glad that I got to have a picture with him and that we got to share a couple memories even though he hated pictures.  At last our favorite buddies came.  Anna and I read The Golden Sandal which was a Middle Eastern Cinderella story.  She liked the book but I was so tired that I couldn’t even remember what we talked about.  We then sat back with Stephanie and her buddy and we talked and had a good time.  We reflected on our books a bit and then it was time to go.  Before they left they gave us treats and cards saying thank you.  I loved it! Well we then all gave each other hugs and took pictures with them and said our good buys.  I had a wonderful time with my buddies I just wish I could’ve stayed more on top of things.  Over all I enjoyed myself and had fun with my buddies.
